PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress high costs associated with an outdoor use extra-large picture display device as well as to attain high contrast even during the daytime by fitting a display color detector linked with a motor in the middle of a picture element separa tion box, and connecting signal lines so that a display color signal reaches the display color detector from a display color instruction device. ;SOLUTION: A display color instruction signal is sent to each display color detector 7 from a display color instruction device 16. If the display color instruction signal differs from a displayed picture element color of a rotary picture element color unit at the point in time, a display color detector 7 sends a signal to a motor 9. The motor rotates and transmits the rotation to a drive wheel 5 via a chain 8. As the drive wheel rotates, the rotary picture element color unit also rotates and the displayed picture element color is changed. The motor 9 continues rotating until the display color detector 7 judges that the displayed picture element color of the rotary picture element color unit is the same as the display color of the display color instruction signal. And, when the display colors of all the rotary picture element color units are as instructed by the display color instruction device 16, the whole screen is changed over to a target picture.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
