PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color still picture display element with which a brilliant image is displayed with a simple structure and with low power consumption, and a color still picture display device.;SOLUTION: The color still picture display element is equipped with a cholesteric liquid crystal layer 4 which is interposed between two transparent electrodes 3, 5, and becomes an optical shutter for a visible ray wavelength region, and a color filter 2 disposed corresponding to the optical shutter. The visible ray wavelength region corresponds to a range of 450-650 nm. The cholesteric liquid crystal layer 4 is constructed by laminating a plurality of cholesteric liquid crystal materials. Furthermore, the color still picture display element is equipped with a backlight device and a polarizing plate and a quarter-wave plate between the backlight device and the cholesteric liquid crystal layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
