PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the three-dimensional orientation of reinforced fibers in an FRP product in a non-destructive manner without performing pretreatment for thinly slicing fiber reinforced plastic molded by a conventional method. ;SOLUTION: A fiber reinforced plastic product is observed by a scanning ultrasonic microscope and the observed image is subjected to image processing to measure the three-dimensional orientation of fibers in the fiber reinforced plastic. In the image processing of the observed image of the scanning ultrasonic microscope, a plurality of interference fringes of respective fibers obtained from the observed image are subjected to grouping at every fibers and a dip α, an azimuth β and the intersecting point P of a surface of fibers being three- dimensional orientation parameters are calculated from the characteristics of the obtained interference fringe groups and three-dimensional orientation is calculated with respect to the respective fibers on an observation surface and the orientation distribution thereof is calculated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
