This paper discusses how fiber orientation of fiber in fiber- reinforced plastics affects automotive applications. Orientation can adversely affect moldings in applications where stress is important, especially in engine components such as front timing covers, pump flanges, oil sump bosses, and crankshaft housing. The paper examines these problems in detail and suggests ways to avert serious difficulties relating to fiber orientation. (AN).
