PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image discriminating device which accurately decides the category of an image by extracting a feature amount that decides an image processing condition and a photographing position with high accuracy. ;SOLUTION: A highest value calculating means 112 calculates the highest value of image density value and a coordinate of the highest value from an area where void eliminating means 111 does not eliminate a void area and a area contacting the void area from an object image f (x, y) such as a breast image within prescribed width. A profile creating means 113 produces a profile of image density values that go through the coordinate of the highest value which is calculated by the means 112, and a recessed part calculating means 114 calculates a recessed part from the profile that is produced by the means 113.
