PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for extracting the feature amount of a moving object and automatically tracking the moving object in order to reduce a failure in automatic tracking of the moving object in a moving image.;SOLUTION: A tracking object in a certain frame is designated by a tracking frame based on manual or automatic calculation (processing 11). When calculating the feature amount of the tracking object (processing 15), arithmetic processing is applied so that each of pixels within the tracking frame is weighted lower toward the tracking frame, and the feature amount of non-tracking objects is excluded (processing 12). Besides, a feature amount calculated from an area outside the tracking frame is excluded from the feature amount calculated in processing 12 by function operation and the influence of the non-tracking object in the tracking frame is reduced or excluded (processing 13 and 14). Next, on the basis of the spatial position information of the tracking frame in the past, a range to search the tracking object determined (processing 16). The spatial distribution condition of the feature amount within this search range is calculated (processing 17) and a new tracking frame is searched from this spatial distribution condition (processing 18).
