PURPOSE:To reduce the shrinkage of a set body of hydraulic cement by drying and to inhibit the deterioration due to freezing and melting by incorporating an org. compd. represented by a specified general formula. CONSTITUTION:This improver for the durability of a set body of hydraulic cement contains one or more kinds of compds. represented by a general formula R-O-Z-H, wherein R is 8-18C alkyl, 8-19C alkanoyl or 8-19C alkenoyl and Z is a group consisting of zero or an arbitrary natural number of -C2H4O- units and zero or an arbitrary natural number of -C3H6O- units bonded in an arbitrary order and having one or more -C2H4O- units and/or one or more -C3H6O- units. When 100 pts.wt. hydraulic cement is blended with 0.1-8.0 pts.wt. of this improver and set, a set body having remarkably superior durability is obtd.
