The present invention relates to an artificial joint, particularly artificial hip joint consisting of a bearing shell (1), which has a concave spherical surface (A) with a center (MiS), and a joint ball (2), which has a convex spherical bearing surface (B) with a center (MiK), which is rotationally symmetrically arranged with respect to a mounting axis (D) in the direction of a neck of the artificial joint shaft (27) connected with the joint ball (2). The bearing shell (1) and the joint ball (2) comprise a wear-resistant metallic material. The bearing shell (1) contact surface (A) has a radius (Rim) and the joint ball (2) contact surface (B) has a radius (rim), whereby their difference ranges within 35 microns to 85 microns. Error in the shape of said bearing shell (1) convex contact surface (A) is less than +/- 7.5 microns within an angle alpha ranging from 90 to 180 degrees, error in the shape of said joint ball (2) concave contact surface (B) is less than +/- 2 microns within an angle beta greater than 140 degrees and the joint ball (2) has outside its concave contact surface (B) a set-back surface (C) the distance of which from the center (MiK) is less then the distance of the concave contact surface (B), wherein the roughness of the bearing shell (1) convex contact surface (A) corresponds to a value Ra being less than 0.05 micron, and the roughness of the joint ball (2) concave contact surface (B) corresponds to a value Ra being less than 0.05 micron.
