Variety of garden poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) ''''Safir''''.

The invention refers to a variety of garden poppy (Papaver somniferum L.), mid to late season ripening, named "Safir", obtained through inbreeding and early, individual selection of the line L-64/83, repeated yearly. The variety is recommended for cultivation in all the regions where the garden poppy is usually grown throughout the country, meant for consumption, for decoration and for the pharmaceutical industry. Its vegetation period is between 104 and 120 days. It is highly resistant to diseases, pests and falling. The Safir variety is characterised by a total height of 90 ... 120 cm and a number of 10 ... 14 ramifications per plant with a narrow ramification angle. The variety responds well to mechanical harvesting, due to the uniformly disposed capsules. The variety produces on average 11.53 q/ha of seeds, 7.08 q/ha of peels and 4.97 kg/ha of morphine. The total content in alkaloids, expressed in morphine, is 0.648 percent.
