There is provided a truck wheel-spacingchanging method in which a wheel-spacing of a truck issurely changed while the truck is self-propelled withpassengers in a car or vehicle body on the truck andthe running stability is not inferior to that of aconventional truck of a fixed wheel-spacing type, thismethod being able to be applied to both of aself-propelled truck and a tracted truck.A variable wheel-spacing truck includesa pair of left and right bogie frames which aretransversely movable relative to each other and can befixedly connected with each other by releasable lockingdevices. At least one of the wheels is slidablerelative to the wheel shaft in an axial direction of theshaft. When the truck moves from one railway of a trackgauge onto a junction railway of a varying track gauge,a running paths pushes upwards auxiliary wheels of thelocking means to release the locking devices. Next,when the truck moves through the junction railwaysection, a pair of guide rails or a pair of rails give apush the wheels of the truck, thereby laterally shiftingthe left and right bogie frames each carrying the wheelsrelative to each other. After a predetermined relativetransverse movement of the bogie frames and wheels iscompleted, the running paths lower the auxiliary wheelsof the locking devices, thereby activating the lockingdevices into a locking condition, and then, the truckis moved out of the junction railway, thereby completinga truck wheel-spacing changing operation.
