ON-LINE COMBUSTIONLESS MEASUREMENT OF GASEOUS FUELS FED TO GAS CONSUMPTION DEVICES

A combustionless measurement method and apparatus aredescribed for ascertaining the quality and/or quantity of gaseous fuelsfed to gas consumption devices, and particularly natural gas consumptiondevices. The technique utilizes a novel empirical algorithm forcorrelating easily measured gas parameters to any one of the: heatingvalve of the fuel gas; density of the fuel gas; and percent concentrationof inert gases within the fuel gas. Sensed fuel gas parameters caninclude any combination of viscosity, thermal conductivity, specificheat, and optical absorption, etc., at more than one temperature ifneeded for accuracy. Specific structures are set forth for implementingthe technique.
