New supported cobalt catalyst, its preparation and its use for polymerising unsaturated compounds

A supported cobalt catalyst (I) consists of (A) cobalt compounds; (B) organo-aluminium compounds; (C) water or hydroxyl-acid compound; (D) inorganic or polymeric organic support materials; and (E) modifiers consisting of tertiary phosphines, whereby the molar ratio of (i) (A):(B):(E) is 1:10 - 1000: 0.1-100; (ii) (B):(C) is 1:0.1 - 0.9; and 0.01-100 mmoles (A) per 100 g (D) is added. Also claimed is a method for the preparation of (I) by mixing components (A)-(E) in an inert solvent and/or diluent at (-) 80 degrees C - 100 degrees C, followed by removal of the solvent and/or diluent at (-) 40-100 degrees C and reduced pressure.
