This invention concerns a process and device for producing deactivatable anti-theft devices (1) for securing articles electronically. The anti-theft devices consist of a soft magnetic strip (2) of predetermined length which emits a characteristic signal when subjected to a magnetic alternating field and of segments (3) of a specific length of half-hard or hard magnetic material. The segments (3) are arranged relative to the soft magnetic strips so that they eliminate the characteristic signal from the soft magnetic strips (2) when in a saturated state. The aim of the invention is to present a process and a device which make it possible to economically produce deactivatable strip elements. As for the process, the aim is achieved by producing an endless strip (4) of medium-hard or hard magnetic material which is cut into individual segments (3) of a defined length, which segments are then advanced by a conveyor (7), the speed of which is greater than the speed at which the endless strip (4) is produced. Thus the relative velocity is adjusted to provide the desired distance between two consecutive segments (3) and so that a soft magnetic endless strip (15) is connected to the segments (3) of medium-hard or hard magnetic material which are separated from each other.
