The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a furnace, reactor or conduit member on which a coke may be deposited on a wall. The method of the present invention is based on a steel having a composition resistant to coke deposition, i.e., C up to 0.25%, Si 1.5-5%, Cr 4-10%, Mo 0.5-2%, Mn 0.3-1% S up to 0.030% and P up to 0.03%, and components up to 100% are mainly made of steel. The present invention also relates to a novel steel composition which can be used in the above-mentioned applications. The steel composition of the present invention contains at most 0.25% of C, 2.5% to 5% of Si, 4 to 10% of Cr, 0.5 to 2% 0.3 to 1% of Mn, 0.03% of S maximum, and 0.03% of P, and the components filling up to 100% are mainly composed of iron.
