FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to new substituted intermediate quinoline compounds used for synthesis of a herbicide, namely, 2-(4-isopropyl-4-methyl-5-oxo-2-imidazo-lidinyl)-5-methoxymethylnicotinic acid and to a method of synthesis of an intermediate compound, for example, 3-methoxymethyl-7- or 8-hydroxyquinoline which can be used for synthesis of the indicated herbicide. Invention describes the compound of the formula (I) where X means direct or branched C1-C6-alkyl, phenyl, direct or branched -O-(C1-C4)-alkyl, where Y and Z mean independently H, direct or branched (C1-C6)-alkyl or phenyl and B means H, chlorine or bromine atom or quaternary base halide.
