Railway permanent way completion in concrete form

In permanent way completion, the top surface of the rail mountings as these emerge from the concreter lies above the ideal mounting surface. The concreter is followed at several times the mounting interval by an intermittently operating device to place the fixing bolts (5) in exact position in the as-yet unsolidified plate concrete before finally jolting the rail-fixing surface by means of a plate (12). This surface is produced with the aid of plastics or metal sheet shuttering (9) removed when the concrete sets and so formed at the edges (15,16) as to urge excess concrete outward controllably to front and rear as the ETERNIT(RTM) one-way rail fixing plates are jolted in. The holes for the bolts are large enough to allow the shuttering to be removed form the set concrete. The shuttering parts stack easily in storage etc. and the bolts and fittings are jolted in to exact level and position.
