Rethinking the commercial building: An investigation into the use of precast concrete as permanent formwork for reinforced concrete in commercial building construction.

摘要

The aim of this project is to devise a system for constructing habitable, sustainable, long-lasting and readily adaptable commercial buildings using three-dimensional precast concrete components to provide permanent formwork for an in-situ concrete core. A system for constructing such a building is presented here, following basic principles of ecologically responsible design, habitability and efficient construction.; A brief investigation into the history of the commercial building is followed with an overview of conventional precast concrete building practice and a discussion of the practicalities of implementing designs that utilize the proposed construction method. Issues that should be addressed in the design process are outlined, followed by the development of a building system that meets these objectives.
