A multi-filament superconductor strip has high critical temperature bismuth-lead cuprate phase superconductor filaments with a low foreign phase content. A strip-like multi-filament high critical temperature superconductor has a normally conducting matrix material surrounding superconducting filaments of a bismuth-lead cuprate containing a 2223-type high Tc phase and }10 vol.% foreign phases in which the plumbate foreign phase content is greater than the cuprate foreign phase content. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above multi-filament superconductor strip. Preferred Features: The superconductor filament material contains -90 vol.% 2223-type high Tc bismuth-lead cuprate phase, less than 1 vol.% cuprate foreign phases, }5 vol.% plumbate foreign phases, and less than 1 vol.% SrO foreign phase.
