Submarine defense and evasion on attack by a torpedo with acoustic homing

To evade a torpedo directed at a submarine, with an acoustic homing device, the submarine activates an interference and launches a submersible on the torpedo path, so that the torpedo is deflected away from the target submarine. The interference and the submersible generate a sound level which is higher than that from the target submarine, to distort the passive steering control of the torpedo. The interference is generated by mechanical, chemical or elelectro-acoustic means according to the analysis of the noise patterns by hydrophones. The submersible gives a bubble track.
