This invention provides a silver halide photographic element which contains a silver halide emulsion comprising a sensitizing dye at a concentration of 75% of its saturation coverage and an antifogging amount of a heterocyclic antifoggant which contains an acidic sulfur or nitrogen silver binding site, said antifoggant being added before or during spectral/chemical sensitization. It further provides a method of preparing such a silver halide emulsion.
