Treatment of oily wastewater by flocculation comprises adding a block copolymer of formula (I) where E = a polymeric segment obtd. from the polymerisation of hydrophobic monomers; x, when present = a nonionic monomer; y = a cationic monomer; R1,R2 = -H or 1-3C alkyl; and F = a salt of an ammonium cation.
