The Read and Record speech message unit has a calculation unit (20) coding speech messages and a memory (30) storing the messages. The calculation unit has two levels. In a first level, a lower complexity level coding is processed, and held in the memory. In a second level calculation, coded memory outputs are processed to a second level, producing a higher level algorithmic coding which is stored in the memory.
