New bimetallic catalyst compositions containing gold and supported on cerium or zirconium oxides or a mixture

New catalysts containing gold, either in particulate form of size less than 10 nm or in bimetallic combination with a group VIII metal. The catalytic composition comprises particles of gold of dimension less than 10 nm and at least one other group VIII metal on a support of cerium oxide or cerium/zirconium oxides. Alternatively, the composition comprises gold in bimetallic combination with the other metal on a zirconium support. Independent claims are also included for the preparation and use of the compositions.
