A complete food or nutritional supplement that contains no more than 10 wt.% water, has low osmolality and is stable with respect to oxidation comprises a mixture of food-grade products coated with a substance rich in oilseed-derived lipids. The water content is no more than 5%, preferably no more than 2%. The lipid content is at least 30 wt.%. The product is a viscous or semi-viscous, water-insoluble paste that develops and osmolality below 100 mOsm/kg, especially below 10 mOsm/kg, after immersion in a 4-fold volume of water. The viscosity at 25 deg C is 100-200 poise, especially 140-160 poise. The coating material comprises more than 40 wt.% a paste derived from peanuts. cocoa beans, almonds, walnuts etc. The mixture of food-grade products is in particulate form and comprises at least one protein source, and/or at least one carbohydrate source, and/or at least one lipid source. The mixture of food-grade products contains vitamins, soluble or insoluble mineral salts and/or enzymes. The product is produced by mixing the carbohydrate source, protein source, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and additives, adding the lipid source and coating material, remixing, and pouring the product into packages.
