A magnetic reading.head consists of two thin magnetic armouring layers (106,134), two magnetic pillars (130,132), a sensor layer (102) with foot (103) and two magnetoresistive ribbons (104a,104b). The distorting effect of the reading current is countered by compensating conductors (105a,105b) which are connected in series with the magnetoresistive ribbons and configured to oppose their magnetic effects.
