PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase strength and modulus of elasticity of a phenol resin fiber useful for industrial raw materials and a carbon fiber prepared by using the resin fiber by including a phenol resin component prepared by using phenols and aldehydes and crystalline components. ;SOLUTION: This resin fiber comprises a phenol resin component (novolak resin, etc.), prepared by using phenols and aldehydes and a crystalline component (calixarene). The crystalline component is included, normally in an amount of 1-50wt.% and for example, in X ray diffraction using CuKα rays, the resin fiber has three strong lines at angle of 2θ≤25°.
