Surface water-based sealer reinforcement of porous mineral building materials

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based sealer for reinforcing a surface layer, capable of well permeating and coming into close contact with the vicinity of a surface of a porous inorganic building material, especially the one deteriorated by exposure to wind and rain, improving the surface layer strength of a substrate and further excellent in adhesion to a coating film, an old coating film, etc., of a top coating material. ;SOLUTION: This water-based sealer for reinforcing a surface layer comprises an aqueous dispersion of (A) a copolymer containing (a) a tertiary amino group- containing ethylertically unsaturated monomer, (b) an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt and (c) an alkyl or a cycloalkyl (meth)acrylate as essential constituent monomers. The content of the monomer (a) in the total amount of the monomers is 0.1-10 wt.% and that of the monomer (b) is 0.1-30 wt.%.
