PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new compounds useful as an optical resolving reagent for alcohols, amines, etc. CONSTITUTION:Compounds, e.g. 1,3-benzodioxole-carboxylic acid expressed by formula I (X is OH or halogen). The (+)- and (-)-isomers are obtained by reacting catechol expressed by formula II with pivalic aldehyde expressed by formula III in the presence of trimethylchlorosilane, etc., producing a 2-tert- butyl-1,3-benzodioxole expressed by formula IV, then reacting the resultant compound expressed by formula IV with N-tetramethylmethylenediamine, etc., thereby affording a racemic modification, reacting the prepared racemic modification with an optical resolving reagent such as cinchonidine and optically resolving the racemic modification by recrystallization, etc.
