PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pyridine compound having a good functional group selective property and a good regioselective property from easily available raw materials in a simple process by reacting a specific diene compound with an alkyne compound. ;SOLUTION: This method for producing a pyridine compound of formula II comprises reacting (A) an azametallacyclopentadiene compound of formula I [M is a transition metal in the front portion of the periodic table; L is cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, or the like; (n) is 1-4; R1, R2 are each a 1-20C (substituted) alkyl, an alkenyl, an aromatic, or the like] with (B) an alkyne compound of the formula: R4-≡-R5 [R4, R5 are each a 1-20C (substituted) alkyl, an alkenyl, or the like] in the presence of a transition metal complex in an organic solvent. The metal complex is preferably an Ni(II) complex of the formula: NiXmLn [L is a neutral ligand; (n) is 1-4; X is an anionic ligand; (m) is 1-4].;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
