PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method capable of obtaining a desired planar chirality by highly selectively subjecting planar chirality of a molecular group such as cyclophane to asymmetric conversion. ;SOLUTION: This method comprises selectively producing a high melting point compound from the high melting point compound and a low melting point compound having planar chirality and being mutually different in melting points and present in diastereomers. In the method, at least the low melting point compound is heated at a temperature lower than the melting point of the high melting point compound and higher than the melting point of the low meting point compound without any solvent or in the presence of an insoluble solvent to selectively produce the high melting point compound. It is preferable to heat a mixture of the high melting point compound with the low melting point compound (especially about 1:1 mixture) without any solvent. The method is suitable for highly selectively carrying out asymmetric conversion of planar chirality of a cyclophane compound such as a crosslinked nicotinamide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
