PURPOSE:To directly measure a trace of material in a gas sample by dispersing antibodies in either agarose, polyacrylamide, carboxylmethyl cellulose or gelatine, and blowing gas to either of them, and then applying exciting light. CONSTITUTION:Antibodies having the ability to singularly combine with a material for detection are dispersed in a water-bearing polymer of agarose, polyacrylamide, carboxylmethyl cellulose, gelatine or the like. A sample gas is blown to the water-bearing polymer and each soluble component including the material for detection in the sample gas is dissolved in the water-bearing polymer and the antigen-antibody reaction of the material for detection with the antibodies is caused in the water-bearing polymer. The bonding of the material for detection and the antibodies is detected by changes in the fluorescence intensity of the antibodies due to bonding of both. Therefore the material for detection can be detected from changes in the fluorescence intensity of the antibodies by using in competition with the material for detection an appropriate fluorescence extinguishing material or a material chemically bonded to a fluorescence intensifying material.
