PURPOSE: To develop a shield excavation method whereby the flowability of excavated sediment or the prevention of seepage during excavation is improved in a shield tunneling method. ;CONSTITUTION: A shield excavation method in a shield tunneling method is developed wherein flowable excavated sediment is made nonflowable by mixing it with a water-sol. high-molecular substance on the way of being discharged behind a shield machine. Thus, the excavated sediment is mixed with the high- molecular substance, agglomerated, dehydrated, and made nonflowable, acting as a cutoff plug against the earth pressure of the natural ground and thus decreasing the disturbance of the ground surrounding a shield cutting face and the settlement of the ground surface.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
