PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC(alternating current) type PDP(plasma display panel) having stabilized discharge characteristic while lowering the impure gas inside of a discharge space.;SOLUTION: In this PDP, an X electrode 10 and a Y electrode are formed for extension in parallel with each other on a surface of a glass substrate 1 and a dielectric layer 2 for coating the whole of the electrodes and the described surface of the glass substrate 1 is formed. In order to coat the whole of a surface of the dielectric layer 2, a protecting film 33 in the amorphous condition or fine crystal condition including MgO and CeO2 having 1-30 mole % of concentration in the film is formed. The protecting film 33 dose not have a grain boundary capable of adsorbing the impure gas. The protecting film 33 is formed by electron beam deposition, and as a deposition source, a pellet obtained by pressurizing the mixture powder of the basic magnesium carbonate pentahydrate powder and the cerium oxide powder mixed at the predetermined ratio in a mold for molding, and putting it in a crucible of aluminum, and burning it at about 1400° C in the atmosphere for about 30 minutes is used.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
