PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new chromosome region participating in pistil length of a rice, derived from a rice having larger pistil length than that of a cultivated rice when grown under the same conditions, existing at a specific position on the fourth chromosome of the rice, enabling the pistil length to be changed and enabling improved breeding to efficiently performed. ;SOLUTION: This new chromosome region participating in pistil length is derived from a rice plant having ≥0.6 mm larger pistil length than that of a cultivated rice when grown under the same conditions and exists at a position sandwiched between two genetic markers G162 and RZ656 on the fourth chromosome of the rice. The chromosome region enables the pistil length of a cultivated rice to be changed, enables the improved breeding of the maternal line of a hybrid rice to be efficiently performed and enables the production efficiency of a hybrid rice seed to be improved. The chromosome region is obtained by investigating relationship among a gene marker lain scattered in a genome, an individual gene type in a crossbred group and an objective characteristic to be analyzed in the gene locus (QTL) analysis using arbitrarily amplified polymorphic DNA through PCR as a marker.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
