PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a current value without dropping the peak voltage in constant voltage arc ion plating. ;SOLUTION: The discharge current in constant voltage arc ion plating is made freely controllable by a rectangular wave pulse power source in which the peak voltage of the pulse is controlled to -50 to -300 volt, the pulse width is made variable in the range from 15 microsec to 4 millisec, and the pulse interval is made variable in such a manner that the total time in the on state of the pulse voltage is controlled to 1 to 90% in the whole.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
