PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the feed/discharge of a work by penetrating a material fed by a material feed means through one of main shafts and feeding it to the other main shaft as a prescribed length of work or delivering the work after completing the machining from the other main shaft side to one shaft side and discharging it. ;SOLUTION: In feeding a work to a first main shaft 3 side, a long material 27 is cut into a prescribed length by using the operation of a second main shaft 15 and the operation of a material feeding device 29 arranged in the second main shaft 15 side so as to be fed to the first main shaft 3 side. In discharging the work after completing the machining, it is discharged by using the operation of the second main shaft 15 and the operation of the material feeding device 29 arranged in the second shaft 15 side. A numerically controlled lathe is thus simplified so as to reduce the cost. In using the new material 27, a prescribed short cutting is executed to obtain the edge face so as to provide the accurate dimension with its edge abutting on the staged part 5a of a scroll chuck 5.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
