PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject absorber excellent in improving effects on light fastness of an organic material, especially a coloring matter and further excellent in solubility and light stability of the ultraviolet light absorber itself and useful as a silver halide photosensitive material, or the like, by polymerizing a specific compound. SOLUTION: This absorber contains a recurring unit prepared by polymerizing at least a compound represented by the formula [R1 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl, or the like; X is COO, CONH, or the like; Y is a (substituted) alkylene, a (substituted)arylene, or the like; Z is O, COO, or the like; (n) is 0 or 1; R2 is a (substituted)alkyl, a (substituted)alkenyl, or the like; R3 is H, a (substituted)alkyl, or the like; R4 is H, a (substituted)alkyl, or the like; R5 is H, a (substituted)alkyl, or the like]. Furthermore, for example, acrylic or methacrylic acid is preferably used as an ethylenic monomer which may be copolymerized with the above compound.
