PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new gene encoding a protein having a specific amino acid sequence and having transcriptional activity for the gene involved in organ differentiation of flowers and capable e.g. of regulating the time of formation of buds and flowers in plants and diversifying the time of flowering and height of plant by its introduction into plants. ;SOLUTION: This gene is a new MADS box gene encoding a protein having an amino acid sequence shown by the formula or an amino acid sequence wherein at least one is (are) deleted, substituted or added in the amino acid sequence shown by the formula and having transcriptional activity for the gene involved in organ differentiation of flowers, and by its introduction into the same or different kinds of plant, is useful for breeding plants, such as regulation of the time of formation of buds and flowers in the plants and diversification of the time of flowering and the height of the plants. The gene is obtained by preparing a cDNA library using mRNA derived from the petals of a gentian, synthesizing an oligonucleotide corresponding with two sites of the code region of the objective gene and conducting PCR technique using the oligonucleotide as a primer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
