PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the high frequency characteristic and heat dissipation property of an intermediate shield material by constituting the intermediate shield layer of a multilayer film having the magnetic film of two and above layers, making the magnetic film of an upper magnet pole side in the multilayer to be a high specific resistance film and making the magnetic film of a lower shield side to be a high heat conduction film.;SOLUTION: In this MR head, an intermediate shield is composed of the magnetic film of two layers, a reproduction gap side is composed of a metallic magnetic film 7 whose specific resistance is not more than 25 μΩ and an upper magnetic pole side of a magnetic film 6 whose specific resistance is not less than 80 μΩ. It is desirable that the magnetic film on the upper magnetic pole side in the intermediate shield functions as a lower magnetic pole and the reproduction gap side of the intermediate shield as a shield. The intermediate shield is composed of at least the two layer film and the reproduction gap side is composed of the metallic magnetic film of low specific resistance. Thus, heat dissipation property is good. On the other hand, the upper magnetic pole side is formed of a high specific resistance magnetic film and therefore recording performance at the time of high frequency is also good.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
