PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure an ignition ionic current by using an ignition plug by operating by a control signal, a solid state switch integrated in a terminal side region of the ignition plug and switching a second terminal of a heating element to ground through a plug housing.;SOLUTION: A solid state switch of this ignition plug is, for example, combined integrally with the ignition plug and only a single line is used for the connection of the ignition plug, so that a working current of the ignition plug flows in a single line. Namely, a bipolar ionic current measurement ignition plug 1 has electrode terminals 6, 7, and an electrode 2 and a heater 3 are electrically insulated with an engine block (= grounding) by a plug body 4 including an insulating elements 5, and the electrode 2 is connected to one of two terminals of the heater 3. Also, an ignition current flows through only one electric terminal 6, and the electric terminal 7 carries only one control signal for operating the solid state switch 8.
