PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power storage system having a power storing function to safely use a sodium-sulfur battery and charging/discharging control method. ;SOLUTION: Facilities are provided, so that an electrical power from a power generating source 64 is supplied to a load 63 and charging/discharging of sodium-sulfur battery 61 can be realized through a power converter. Thereby, a switch 83 is arranged in a charging/discharging circuit, extended up to the sodium-sulfur battery 61 from the power converter in order to monitor a terminal voltage of such battery and accumulated amount of charging and discharging electricity of the battery, amount of charging electricity accumulated during the charging operation of the sodium-sulfur battery and the charging are summed, until it reaches the value for compensating for the discharging electricity accumulated during the discharging operation. During the discharging process, discharging is stopped when the battery voltage is lowered up to the preset discharging voltage value by monitoring a battery voltage during the charging and discharging operation, and during charging process, control is performed so that the charging operation is stopped or the switch is opened, when the battery voltage rises up to the preset charging voltage.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
