PURPOSE: To provide a micro-wave oven such as a heating and cooking device in which the kind of cooked item such as vegetables is discriminated in particular and the most appropriate cooking is automatically performed in response to a result of discrimination. ;CONSTITUTION: A heating and cooking device is comprised of a weight sensor 6 for detecting a weight of a cooked item 2, and a humidity sensor 7 for detecting vapor generated from the heated item 2 to be cooked. The kind of the cooked item 2 is discriminated at the discrimination part in response to the weight of the cooked item 2 detected by the weight sensor 6 and a time up to a vapor generating state detected by the humidity sensor 7. A heating means 8 for heating a heating chamber is controlled in response to a result of this discrimination. With such an arrangement, a switch for selecting the vegetables can be eliminated and at the same time the most suitable heating and cooking can always be performed irrespective of the type of the vegetable.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
