Use of bis-aminomethyl-pyridine derivatives of formula (I) and their metal chelates as free-radical inhibitors in medicine is new. R1 = H or CH2COR5; R2 = XYR6; X = a bond or 1-3C alkylene by R7; Y = a bond, O or NR6; R3 = 1-8C alkylene, 1,2-cycloalkylene or 1,2-arylene group; R4 = H or 1-3C alkyl; R5 = OH, optionally hydroxylated alkoxy, amino or alkylamido; R6 = H, COOR8, or an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group optionally substituted with one or more of COOR8, CON(R8)2, N(R8)2, OR8, =NR8, =O, OP(O)(OR8)R7 or OSO3M; R7 = OH, or an optionally hydroxylated and/or alkoxylated alkyl or aminoalkyl; R8 = H or an optionally hydroxylated and/or alkoxylated alkyl; and M = H or one equivalent of a physiologically tolerable cation. Also claimed are: a pharmaceutical composition comprising (I) or its metal chelate and a thrombolytic agent in a carrier or excipient; and a pack comprising (I) or its metal chelate and separately a thrombolytic agent for simultaneous, separate or sequential use during a thrombolytic procedure.
