The equipment is for load units, esp. freight containers, the chassis travelling on rails and with a grab (8) extensible and retractable below an overhead conductor wire (9). The horizontal transport mechanism (6) together with the grab is mounted on a chassis (5) travelling on rails (4a) immediately alongside a rail track or road, and is also adjustable for height. A minimum clearance (11) is maintained between the grab and the overhead wire as it is extended and retracted, and the horizonal transport mechanism telescopes in a frame (41) sliding at right angles to the travel direction. It and the grab can work in vertical guides (10) between the columns (5a) of the main chassis.
