A device for controlling the gripping action ofgrippers on plate-like workpieces, at the end of a feedingtable of a machine that processes such workpieces, and morespecifically for controlling the upper mechanisms for positioningrespectively the gripper bar (60-67), the sheet pulling-downappliance (60, 68, 69), the stops-carrying plate (90-94)and the mechanism for opening the grippers. This deviceincludes, slightly underneath the downstream edge of the feedingtable, a horizontal shaft (30) arranged crosswise to the sheettravelling direction, which oscillates through a predeterminedangle driven by a single lower lateral device consisting of acam, a lever and a pull handle. Each lateral end of this commonshaft (30) carries a symmetrical series of articulated armsand/or of cams (20), each lateral pair of cams (20) or armsactuating respectively an upper mechanism.
