Process for the surface treatment of a titanium dioxide pigment, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: - an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide pigments is formed, - a phosphate layer is precipitated in a first step alumina on the surface of the pigment, - a layer of alumina is precipitated in a second step on the pigment, - the pigment is recovered from the suspension; and titanium dioxide pigment characterized in that it comprises a titanium dioxide core successively covered with a layer of alumina phosphate, then with a layer of alumina, then with a layer of magnesium oxide .
