A method of modifying the development of a plant comprisingtransforming a plant cell with a nucleic acid encoding a cyclin dependentkinase inhibitor to produce a transformed plant cell; and, regenerating theplant from the transformed plant cell under conditions wherein the cyclindependent kinase inhibitor is expressed during regeneration of the plant tomodify the development of the plant, wherein the nucleic acid encoding thecyclin dependent kinase inhibitor is a gene selected from the group consistingof ICK2, ICN2, ICN6, ICN7 and homologs thereof.
