The system has an input unit (4), a data source (3) containing a location and/or street list and controller (1) for searching for entered location and/or street names in a list in the data source. The source contains an alphabetically sorted list and a frequency sorted list forming part of the first list. The input unit has a speech input system. The controller starts its search at the beginning of the second list.
