PURPOSE: A method is to reduce the reaction and cooling time in synthesizing Li1+XMN2-XO4 and to minimize unwanted byproducts. CONSTITUTION: A continuous method of synthesizing Li1+XMN2-XO4 comprises the steps of:mixing a lithium salt/hydroxide and a manganese salt/oxide; feeding the mixture to a reactor; stirring the mixture continuously in the reactor; heating the mixture in air, oxygen or oxygen enriched atmosphere at a temperature of from about 650C to 800C for no more than 4 hours; cooling the temperature of the reacted product to less than 200C for no more than 2 hours. Synthesized single phase Li1+XMN2-XO4 (where X is from about 0.022 to about 0.20) by this method has lattice parameter of about 8.235 angstrom.
