PURPOSE: A semiconductor light wavelength converter of a cross gain modulation type is provided to make an extinction ratio of a wavelength converting signal greater than that of an input signal irrespective of a wavelength direction. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor light wavelength converter comprises a preamplifier for amplifying and outputting a data input light signal, a light coupler for inputting an input data light signal outputted from the preamplifier through a first terminal and outputting the wavelength-converted light signal through a second terminal, and a wavelength converting semiconductor light amplifier for receiving a light wavelength converting light source of a continuous wave state and outputting the wave-length signal through the second terminal of the light coupler.
